Skagen

IMG_20160508_125213 After overnighting in a farm yard at Sikeborg we decided to spend the weekend by the sea driving to the town of Skagen and Denmark’s northernmosIMG_1096t point. Skagen is a popular seaside area, dominated by sand dunes and, as we found out, strong sea breezes. The evening we arrived the town was packed. We had a drink in a quayside bar and got talking to a group of Swedish visitors who explained that it was a festival weekend, celebrating the beginning of the sailing season. They apparently come back in August to celebrate the end of the season. Seems like a good excuse!

Skagen is known as the land of light, enjoying more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in Denmark. Having spent the day walking along the wide, empty, sandy beaches of the North Sea we decided to walk to Grenen, the very tip of the peninsular, where the Baltic and North seas converge. We arrived at sunset, taking our supper and wine with us. The seas, whilst meeting, do not really converge but buff one another creating a nudging line in the sea, bit like a marriage.
