Journey to Prague

img_1988The next morning, we reluctantly left our five star life style, bath, linen napkins and flushing toilets. Arriving at the van park slightly later than anticipated we left in rather a hurry, in fact so much of a hurry we forgot to pay the site fees! I contacted them the next day to pay by credit card to be told not to worry and if we had a enjoyed our stay to recommend us to family and friends. The generosity of the Poles never ceases to amaze!

It was hot as we arrived in Prague and the riverside camp site left a lot to be desired but it was close to the city and we were not intending to spending much time there.  We hired Graeme a boneshaker of a bike and cycled off to Prague, to the heat, humidity and hundreds of other tourists.

We were feeling a little jaded after the full-on visit to Krakow but we were very keen to get to the city as we had arranged to meet up with Graeme’s daughter Rachel and partnimg_1982-copyer Dan. There were big smiles when we spotted Rachel on Legii Bridge, our agreed rendezvous. They had spent the weekend sightseeing so were happy to sit and chat over lunch in a quiet street in the old town. We wandered to around the old town until they had to leave to for the airport. We continued to walk around the town visiting the famous Wenceslaus Square and the Charles Bridge but the heat soon got to us and we cycled back to sit by the river and watched the canoeists on the white-water slalom run next to the campsite

The next day we cycled, early, up to Prague Castle. This splendid complex of buildings took all the morning to explore. By lunchtime it was packed with visitors and tour groups all vying for space amongst the historic buildings. We extricated ourselves and cycled down the steep roads to the river and lunch.
