Bru Marina

DSCF2782Bru marina turned out to be quite a find. Very peaceful with good facilities, including warm toilets, stunning views across the marina and as we discovered the next day a lovely little restaurant.  On Sunday morning whilst Graeme was looking around the marina I went in search of tokens for the washing machine. I went into what I thought was a rather dilapidated shack to find it buzzing with people, all there for Sunday lunch; a delicious looking buffet arrangement of Norwegian specialities. I ditched the search for tokens and went to find Graeme.

The restaurant/café is called Tommy’s Kjokken and Tommy, the larger-than-life owner/maître d who spoke perfect English, soon had us seated and tucking into a rather delicious fish soup, followed by a choice of meats, vegetables, more fish, sauces and salads. The meats were all slow cooked, rolled joints, very tender with lots of flavour and the halibut fish, cooked to perfection. Moving onto desserts was heavenly. There was again much choice. I had a sort of crème caramel, which is,  apparently, a Norwegian speciality its name meaning ‘fit for kings’ and Graeme tried a tiny piece of a hazelnut cake with custard. It was all so delicious and so surprising a find  There was no menu, thus no prices so we anticipated that, being Norway, we would be in for a hefty bill which we agreed we would justify by calling it a late (four days late) wedding anniversary celebration. No justification was needed it was incredibly reasonable and as the weather was so awful we spent the rest of  the afternoon in the shack reading, working on the computer and, as Tommy had provided me with the tokens I had originally been in search of, getting the washing done.
